We’re excited to share another incredible story in our series, "Life After MBA – Real Success Stories of Merchant Alumni." Today, we focus on Fabricio, a Merchant GMAT & Admissions alum who completed his MBA at Bocconi and secured a position at Allianz Consulting soon after. His journey highlights the power of resilience, adaptability, and unwavering determination.
Unlike many peers, Fabricio chose to pursue a full-time position instead of an internship. “Initially, I wanted to go directly into a full-time position, as the offers for internships weren’t the best,” he explains. While Bocconi offered strong connections, internships were often poorly paid and short in duration. By May 2023, Fabricio had already secured an offer from Allianz Consulting, although the role would only start in October.
“Given the opportunity to go straight into a full-time role, I decided to pursue that option.”
Fabricio candidly shares, “The job-hunting process was quite hard... most of the jobs were for Italian language speakers.” To stay motivated, he maintained confidence in his employability and kept trying. “It was really important not to depend 100% on one specific process but to be open to different roles, positions, and geographies,” he notes.
One surprising twist? He applied for a position that had already closed and still received an interview invitation.
According to Fabricio, “Presenting my CV confidently was key.” After acing the initial questions, he felt at ease for the remainder of the interview. His preparation included leveraging AI tools, studying company financials, and speaking to industry professionals. “Positive critique from other MBAs was also insightful,” he shares. Fabricio’s key takeaway? “Be as transparent as possible during interviews.”
"When I landed my position at Allianz Consulting, my initial reaction was mixed. The first communication came during the final interview process, and I wanted to relax, but I waited for the formal offer to feel 100% at ease,” Fabricio recalls. The challenges of the job search were significant, but he trusted in his abilities. “Overcoming those challenges felt amazing but expected; I always trusted myself.”
Reflecting on his MBA experience, Fabricio proudly states, “The MBA helped me land a job in the European market and took my English proficiency to a level I never imagined.” On a personal note, his journey was enriched by moving with his wife and welcoming their son during the MBA. “It was the most magical combination I ever experienced,” he reflects, emphasizing the strength he found in trusting his partner. His advice to couples considering an MBA together? “Take the chance to strengthen your relationship during the MBA.” And for those about to have a child: “Although it may feel overwhelming, decisions become easier because you know where the priority should be.”
Fabricio underscores the importance of crafting a tailored CV: “I made 50 different CVs but finalized three versions. Which one to use? It depended on the position and company.” His final piece of advice? “Don’t just talk about what’s on your CV; share your motivations for your career moves.”
Fabricio’s journey to Allianz is a testament to persistence, strategic thinking, and the power of personal support systems. 🌱
